The Bentley Bentayga is a workhorse of a vehicle. It’s comfortable, efficient, and stylish all at the same time. The 2023 model year brings with it a host of new features and improvements, chief among them being an extended wheelbase (EWB) configuration that adds even more space and comfort to an already spacious interior. Let’s take a closer look at what the 2023 Bentley Bentayga EWB has to offer.
Under the Hood
The 2023 Bentley Bentayga Extended Wheelbase will have a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine which produces 542 horsepower, and 568 lb ft of torque. It will come with an eight-speed automatic transmission instead of the standard six-speed that is in the regular wheelbase model. The only drawback is that it won’t offer a hybrid engine or the even more powerful W12 engine found in other models.
The EWB is a powerful and quick SUV. We don’t have our own performance figures yet, but Bentley claims that its 4.5-second zero-to-60-mph time is just 0.1 seconds slower than the regular Bentayga V8. Although an official weight has yet to be determined, the firm claims that the EWB will be lighter than 220 pounds.
The Bentayga S test weight of 5,439 pounds indicates that the EWB should weigh around 5650 pounds. The biggest mechanical change is that it now comes with rear-wheel steering – which is something new for Bentaygas! This works to make turning easier by effectively shortening the wheelbase.
Inside the Cabin
The cabin of the 2023 Bentley Bentayga EWB is where this SUV really shines. As befitting a vehicle of this caliber, every surface is covered in high-quality materials like wood veneers, leather upholstery, and aluminum trim. The front seats are heated and ventilated, while both rows get heated rear seats as well as heating elements in both armrests and outer seat cushions.
In addition, the design of the diamond-stitched leather upholstery now uses thinner threads with a smaller, tighter stitch placed in a new pattern that stretches the diamonds as they move farther from the center. The newly available Bentley Diamond Illumination sends light through perforations in the door panels. It uses 12 LEDs in the front doors and 22 in the rear doors, and the intensity of the lighting can also be controlled via the remote control.
New heated rear doors and center armrests provide a little more comfort on cold days. Bentley even offers a new trim that embeds photo-etched metal badges under polished paint.
The Airline Seat is a revolutionary new seat that reclines up to 40 degrees and features a motorized footrest. It has many different positions that can be adjusted to make you comfortable, and it also monitors the temperature and humidity to keep you comfortable. The seat has a range of massage and posture-correcting orthopedic programs that can be programmed in to suit your needs.
Capabilities
Bentley describes the Bentayga as the all-around luxury SUV with the broadest range of performance. It certainly has performance, comfort and luxury covered, and the air suspension ,and ride modes also add to the off-road capability. The air suspension gives the Bentayga EWB a standard ground clearance of 7.9 inches, but the off-road modes can increase this up to 9.7 inches to clear off-road obstacles.
Consisting of Snow & Grass, Dirt & Gravel, Mud & Trail, and Sand Dunes, the off-road modes each adjust the standard four-wheel drive system, throttle, and traction and stability control to work best on that type of terrain.
The Bentley Bentayga EWB 2023 makes a big, luxurious vehicle even bigger and more luxurious. It really extends the Bentayga’s already impressive all-around capability for anyone who gets behind the wheel. However, the best place in this vehicle is often the back seat. It’s a good place to get some Zs.
Outside Appearance
Exterior changes include a new grille inspired by the Flying Spur sedan, with chrome vertical louvers against a black grille. The EWB also has a new 22-inch wheel design and a repositioned panoramic sunroof to provide more light for rear-seat occupants.
Price
Not only has the Bentayga’s wheelbase increased, but so has its price. In fact, Bentley is estimating that the EWB will be priced around $266,225—a significant increase from the current Bentayga V8. And if you start adding options, it’s not unlikely that the final cost could exceed $300,000.
